Tiova Rotacap is a drug used for inhalation in COPD, emphysema, asthma, chronic bronchitis to facilitate breathing, the necessary amount of air entering the respiratory system. It occurs in capsules inserted into the HandiHaler inhaler, or in an aerosol solution.
The main component is Tiotropium Bromide, which is not a hormone. But this is a severe drug prescribed by a doctor. Take it once a day, taking two breaths with the mouthpiece of the device in the mouth. A single dose per day is 5 micrograms of the contents of the capsule or aerosol cartridge. Tiova Rotacap is not recommended for pregnant and nursing women and should be taken with caution for kidney diseases. Sometimes it causes dry mouth, stomach and bowel problems, and skin rashes.
Description of Tiova Rotacap
Tiova Rotacap is a drug that relieves shortness of breath for those who have serious problems with the bronchi or lungs.
Drug group
The drug belongs to the pharmacological group of M-anticholinergic drugs. These are substances that affect the corresponding сholinoreceptors. In this case, the sensitive areas of the bronchi are blocked, and the broncholytic effect is also shown, the secretion of glands is reduced.
Pharmacodynamics of Tiova Rotacap 18 mcg
In each capsule of Tiova Rotacap, the amount of the main component corresponds to 18 micrograms of Tiotropium, due to which the drug:
acts selectively, not on all bronchi receptors in the same way;
gives effect within half an hour after the application;
is slowly released from the body after use, so it works 24 hours;
has a local impact, not a systemic one.
It was found that on the 3rd day of therapy, the symptoms of shortness of breath decrease in patients, and after a week, the state of health is even closer to normal. For 4 years of use of the drug, such an important indicator as OVF1 improves and stabilizes, the risk of exacerbations of COPD and death of the patient from suffocation decreases.
Tiotropium bromide – what is it?
Tiotropium bromide, which has a form of release in the form of a powder or solution, is a long-acting blocker of M-choline receptors. Therefore, drugs based on it are used for serious respiratory problems caused by pathologies of the bronchi and lungs. It facilitates this vital process by suppressing the activity of the receptors and relaxing the smooth muscles of the organs. The effect can last up to 24 hours.
Taking Tiova Rotacap helps patients:
stabilize the function of the bronchi and lungs;
improve the quality of life and human activity;
avoid exacerbations of diseases or postpone them for a while, make them not as severe as without drugs.
Physical activity of patients with COPD when taking Tiova Rotacap
In addition, it is not addictive with prolonged use, does not depress other organs and systems, if they are healthy.
The disadvantages of the drug include the high price and the need for additional medical monitoring for patients with renal failure. And not everyone is comfortable using a spray or inhaler. Note that you cannot swallow capsules as pills with water.
Is it a hormone drug or not?
Tiova Rotacap, like the drug in the form of a solution, is not a hormonal drug. Despite a marked and quite rapid effect, it only applies to the group M-anticholinergic drugs. And it has a cholinolytic and bronchodilating effect, without changing the balance of hormones in the body.
Instruction for use
Tiova Rotacap should be taken in accordance with the instructions for use. You should take it:
• only if indicated and prescribed by a doctor;
• no more than 5 micrograms per day (this is two clicks on the aerosol or two breaths through the HandiHaler, where there is 1 capsule) once a day;
• in the absence of pregnancy, lactation, allergies and kidney problems (in these cases, you need constant monitoring);
• not for children;
• bearing in mind such side effects as dry mouth, constipation, problems with accommodation, urination, coughing;
• with caution when it comes to overdosing. You should fight the symptoms, that is, rapid heartbeat, drying of the mucous membranes, the inability to focus on anything.
Common use
Tiova is a specific antagonist of muscarinic receptors with longterm action. It reversibly blocks receptors of M3 type in respiratory track which results in relaxation of smooth muscles of the bronchial tree. High affinity of the receptors and slow release of the inhibitor from the complex with M3 receptor stipulates prolonged local action of Tiovais. Bronholitic effect of the drug results of local action, dose and persisted for at least 24 hours. Effects of Tiova depend on the dose and continues for 24 hours. The medication is used to treat bronchial spasms (wheezing) caused by chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, chronic bronchitis and emphysema.
Dosage and direction
Tiova comes as capsules with powder for inhalations with the HandiHaler inhalation device. Use the medication about the same time each day.
Precautions
Cautiousness is needed in treatment of patients with narrow-angle glaucoma, urination disorders caused by prostatic hypertrophy or obstruction of the bladder neck. Tiovais cannto be used for urgent blockage of a bronchial spasm. Avoid getting of the medication in eyes. Monitoring on a regular basis is needed in the patients with moderate and severe renal failure treated by Tiovais and medications which excreted by the kidneys. Inhaled medications may cause paradoxical bronchospasm and other reactions of such kind. Avoid administration of the medication if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Contraindications
Tiova cannot be administered to the patients with hypersensitivity to the medication, atropine and its derivates (ipratropium and oxytropine). Use in adolescents under 18 years of age is not researched.
Possible side effects
Most common side effects include local reactions such as dry mouth, throat pain, coughing, paradoxical bronchospasm. Changes in accommodation if the medication got into the eyes. Allergic reactions (rash, swelling) are possible. In rare were observed cases short heart beat, acute glaucoma, difficulty urination in men with prostatic hypertrophy, constipation.
Drug interactions
Concomitant use of Tiova with other anticholinergetic medications is not recommended.
Missed dose
If you forgot to take your dose in time, please do it as soon as you remember. But do not take if it is too late or almost time for your next dose. Do not increase your recommended dose. Take your doses at about the same time each day to avoid missing a dose.
Overdose
It was not reported about overdose if Tiova was used in therapeutic doses. In case of considerable exceeding of the recommended dose symptoms associated with anticholinergetic properties of the medication are observed: reversible changes in accommodation, dry mouth. Acute poisoning is not likely due to low biological availability of the medication used as inhalations.
Storage
Store at room temperature away from moisture, sunlight, kids and pets in a tight container.
