Seroflo Inhaler refers to adrenergic pharmaceuticals and their combinations, which are used in the form of inhalations.
This drug belongs to the group of bronchodilators, with salmeterol and fluticasone propionate as active substances.
Salmeterol, in particular, is a selective agonist of beta-two-adrenergic receptors, which has a long-term effect (it acts for half a day). Its molecular structure has a long side link that is able to bind to the receptor, which is located outside.
Salmeterol has a great effect in order to prevent the appearance of bronchospasms provoked by histamine exposure (the most common cause of asthmatic attacks), while it has a longer duration of bronchodilation if compared with ordinary short-term agonists of beta-two-adrenoreceptors.
It has the property of effective and long-term inhibition of the release of certain cell mediators in the lung tissues, in particular, histamines, leukotrienes, and others.
Seroflo Inhaler can cause the suppression of an allergic reaction at an early and late stage. Even after the reception of a single dose, there is a decrease in hyperreactivity in the bronchi. Half an hour after the end of the effect of bronchial expansion, there is an inhibition of the late stage of the attack of bronchospasm.
It is a glucocorticoid, which is used for local treatment. If it is taken in the form of inhalation injection, the drug gets directly into the lower respiratory tract (trachea, bronchi, lungs). In this case, it produces a pronounced anti-inflammatory effect, which reduces the activity of painful symptoms, reduces the frequency of exacerbations of diseases in which there is an obstruction of the lower respiratory organs.
Drug Indications
Seroflo Inhaler is prescribed for the treatment of chronic bronchial asthma when the patient is recommended to be treated with a combination of long-acting β2-agonists and inhaled corticosteroids. In particular, for:
- patients who have insufficient control of bronchial asthma when treated with inhaled corticosteroids and short-acting β2 agonists;
- patients with adequate control of bronchial asthma during treatment with inhaled corticosteroids and long-acting β2-agonists.
Drug contraindications
Seroflo Inhaler is not used if the patient is allergic to one of the drugs included in it, including auxiliary ones.
It can be used for the treatment of children from the age of 12.
Use during pregnancy and lactation
Seroflo Inhaler can be used to treat pregnant women only if their lives are threatened, and if the doctor carefully weighs the benefit/harm ratio.
Lactation is suspended for the duration of treatment with this drug.
Dosage and reception
Seroflo Inhaler is used on a regular basis, even if asthma attacks do not occur, starting with inhaling twice a day and switching to using the drug 1 time a day. The dose is determined by the doctor.
The introduction of the drug occurs when inhaling a dose of the drug in the form of microscopic doses of powder, using an inhaler. The use of the inhaler is explained in detail in the attached diagram-instructions.
If you want to get the drug into the windpipe when inhaled, you need to:
• shake the inhalation can;
• exhale as much air as possible from your lungs;
• insert an aerosol mouthpiece into your mouth, wrapping your lips around it from all sides;
• press the bottom of the can and take a deep breath;
• hold your breath as long as possible.
If the patient has previously had nocturnal attacks of bronchial asthma, then this 1 dose is inhaled before going to sleep. If daytime attacks are more frequent, then the dose of the drug is inhaled in the morning.
After Seroflo Inhaler use, rinse your mouth with water to avoid oral candidiasis.

• trembling of the limbs, tachycardia;
• headache, hypokalemia, hyperkalemia;
• reduced adrenal function (restored independently);
• nausea, hypoglycemia, convulsions.
Treatment with selective beta-blockers, the abolition of the use of the drug.
Common use
Seroflo Inhaler is applied in treatment of asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) associated with chronic bronchitis. It is sold in form of an oral inhaler and contains 2 medicines, fluticasone propionate (Flovent) and salmeterol (Serevent). Fluticasone propionate is a corticosteroid substance which reduces inflammation in the lungs. Salmeterol, a beta2-agonist (LABA), relaxes smooth muscles of bronchi, widens them and has prolonged activity. Mutual work of the two ingredients prevents wheezing and shortness of breath.
Dosage and direction
Seroflo Inhaler should be used twice daily: in morning and evening, 12 hours apart. Do not take it more often than prescribed, excessive use can aggravate heart irregularities. Caution is needed if you are treated with this medication and have any kind of heart disorder or high blood pressure.
