Prilox Cream: Rapid Relief for Hemorrhoid Discomfort

Prilox Cream is a clinically-formulated topical treatment designed to provide fast and effective symptomatic relief from hemorrhoids and associated anorectal discomfort. Combining the proven anesthetic action of lidocaine with the vasoconstrictive properties of phenylephrine, it offers a multi-mechanism approach to managing pain, itching, swelling, and irritation. This expert-formulated cream is intended for temporary relief of external hemorrhoid symptoms, promoting comfort and improved quality of life during flare-ups. Its targeted action makes it a reliable choice for individuals seeking non-prescription management of acute hemorrhoidal distress.

Features

  • Contains lidocaine hydrochloride 5% w/w for potent local anesthesia
  • Includes phenylephrine hydrochloride 0.25% w/w for vasoconstriction and swelling reduction
  • Water-miscible cream base for easy application and absorption
  • Formulated without parabens or unnecessary irritants
  • Suitable for external use only
  • Available in 30g tubes with measured applicator

Benefits

  • Provides rapid numbing effect to alleviate pain and discomfort within minutes of application
  • Reduces swelling and inflammation through targeted vasoconstriction
  • Soothes itching and irritation associated with hemorrhoids and minor anorectal tears
  • Creates a protective barrier that minimizes further irritation from moisture and friction
  • Enables comfortable bowel movements by temporarily desensitizing affected areas
  • Supports healing by reducing the urge to scratch and further damage sensitive tissue

Common use

Prilox Cream is primarily indicated for the temporary relief of pain, itching, and discomfort associated with external hemorrhoids. It is also used for symptomatic relief of minor irritations, itching, and soreness in the anal/genital region. The cream may provide comfort following anorectal surgery or episiotomy when recommended by a healthcare provider. It is not intended for internal use or treatment of underlying causes of hemorrhoids, such as chronic constipation or venous insufficiency.

Dosage and direction

Adults and children 12 years and older: Clean and dry the affected area thoroughly. Apply a thin layer of Prilox Cream to the external hemorrhoidal area up to 4 times daily, especially after bowel movements and at bedtime. Use the enclosed applicator for hygienic application. Do not use more than 4 applications in any 24-hour period. For children under 12 years, consult a healthcare provider before use. Treatment should not exceed 7 days unless directed by a physician. Wash hands before and after application.

Precautions

For external use only. Avoid contact with eyes, mouth, and other mucous membranes. Do not apply to broken skin or open wounds unless directed by a healthcare provider. Discontinue use if irritation develops or symptoms worsen. Do not bandage or wrap the treated area unless advised by a physician. This product may cause temporary numbness beyond the application site; avoid accidental transfer to sensitive areas. Consult a healthcare provider if symptoms persist beyond 7 days or rectal bleeding occurs.

Contraindications

Prilox Cream is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to lidocaine, phenylephrine, or any component of the formulation. Should not be used by patients with history of methemoglobinemia or glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency. Contraindicated in patients with severe liver impairment or those taking antiarrhythmic drugs such as tocainide or mexiletine. Not recommended for use during pregnancy or breastfeeding without medical supervision.

Possible side effects

Most side effects are local and transient. Common reactions include temporary burning, stinging, redness, or irritation at the application site. Rare side effects may include allergic contact dermatitis, skin blanching, or systemic effects such as dizziness, headache, or tachycardia if excessive amounts are applied. Extremely rare cases of methemoglobinemia have been reported with excessive lidocaine absorption. Discontinue use and seek medical attention if breathing difficulties, swelling, or severe skin reactions occur.

Drug interaction

May potentiate effects of other local anesthetics or vasoconstrictors. Use with caution in patients taking Class I antiarrhythmic drugs (e.g., mexiletine, tocainide) due to potential additive cardiac effects. Monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) and tricyclic antidepressants may enhance the vasoconstrictor effects of phenylephrine. Beta-blockers may antagonize phenylephrine’s effects. Inform your healthcare provider about all medications, including prescription, OTC, and herbal products.

Missed dose

Apply as soon as remembered ifๆŽฅ่ฟ‘ the next scheduled application time. Do not double the dose to make up for a missed application. Resume regular dosing schedule. The occasional missed dose is unlikely to significantly impact symptomatic relief given the PRN (as needed) nature of application.

Overdose

Excessive application may lead to systemic absorption of active ingredients. Lidocaine overdose may cause CNS effects (dizziness, seizures) and cardiovascular effects (bradycardia, hypotension). Phenylephrine overdose may cause hypertension, tachycardia, and headache. In case of suspected overdose, remove any remaining product and seek immediate medical attention. Provide supportive care and symptomatic treatment as necessary.
