Megalis: Restore Confidence with Effective Erectile Dysfunction Treatment

Its long duration of action provides a significant window of opportunity, reducing time-related anxiety and supporting a more spontaneous and natural intimate experience. This medication is intended for adult men and should be used under the guidance of a healthcare professional following a thorough medical evaluation to ensure its suitability and safety for your specific health profile.

Common use
Megalis (Tadalafil) is primarily indicated for the treatment of erectile dysfunction in adult men. It is used to improve erectile function by increasing blood flow to the penis, which is necessary to achieve and maintain an erection following sexual stimulation. It is not an aphrodisiac and does not increase libido. Its use is also approved for the treatment of symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and for pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) under different brand configurations, though this card focuses on its application for ED.
Dosage and direction
The recommended starting dose for most patients is 10mg, taken orally prior to anticipated sexual activity. Based on efficacy and tolerability, the dose may be increased to 20mg or decreased to 5mg. The tablet should be swallowed whole with a glass of water; it may be taken with or without food. The medication should not be taken more than once per day. For daily use (a separate dosing regimen for management of BPH or for ED where daily dosing is preferred), a lower dose of 2.5mg or 5mg is typically prescribed. It is crucial to follow the specific dosage instructions provided by your prescribing physician.
Precautions
- A comprehensive medical history and physical examination should be conducted to diagnose ED, assess potential underlying causes, and determine cardiovascular health before initiating treatment.
- Patients with cardiovascular disease should be evaluated for their suitability for sexual activity, as it may pose a risk. Megalis offers no protection against cardiovascular events.
- Use with caution in patients with anatomical deformation of the penis (e.g., angulation, cavernosal fibrosis, or Peyronie’s disease), or conditions that may predispose them to priapism (e.g., sickle cell anemia, multiple myeloma, or leukemia).
- Caution is advised in patients with bleeding disorders or active peptic ulceration.
- This medication does not protect against sexually transmitted diseases.
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to Tadalafil or any of the excipients in the formulation.
- Concurrent administration of any form of organic nitrates or nitric oxide donors (e.g., amyl nitrite “poppers”) in any capacity. This combination can cause a sudden, dangerous drop in blood pressure.
- Concurrent administration with guanylate cyclase stimulators, such as riociguat.
- Patients for whom sexual activity is inadvisable due to underlying cardiovascular status.
Possible side effects
Like all medications, Megalis can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them. Most are mild to moderate and transient.
- Very common (≥1/10): Headache, dyspepsia.
- Common (≥1/100 to <1/10): Back pain, myalgia, nasal congestion, flushing, dizziness, pain in limb.
- Uncommon (≥1/1,000 to <1/100): Nausea, vomiting, gastroesophageal reflux disease, visual disturbances (non-arteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy has been reported rarely), tinnitus, palpitations, tachycardia, hypotension, priapism (prolonged and sometimes painful erection lasting more than 4 hours—requires immediate medical attention to prevent permanent tissue damage). Report any side effects to your doctor, especially if they are severe or do not go away.
Drug interaction
- Nitrates: Concomitant use is contraindicated due to the risk of profound hypotension.
- Alpha-blockers: Concomitant use can lead to symptomatic hypotension. Dose adjustment or separation of administration may be required.
- Antihypertensives: May potentiate the blood-pressure-lowering effect.
- Strong CYP3A4 inhibitors (e.g., ketoconazole, ritonavir, clarithromycin): Can increase Tadalafil exposure. A dose limitation to 10mg within a 72-hour period is recommended.
- Alcohol: Excessive consumption (≥5 units) in combination with Tadalafil may increase the risk of orthostatic hypotension, dizziness, and tachycardia.
Missed dose
Megalis is taken on an as-needed basis prior to sexual activity. It is not part of a daily dosing regimen where a “missed dose” typically applies. If you are on a daily dosing regimen for another indication and miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and take your next dose at the regular time. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one.
Overdose
In cases of suspected overdose, standard supportive measures should be adopted as required. Hemodialysis is not expected to accelerate clearance as Tadalafil is highly bound to plasma proteins. The primary expected symptom would be an extension of its vasodilatory properties, such as severe headache, flushing, dizziness, and potentially significant hypotension. In case of a severe drop in blood pressure, active cardiovascular support may be necessary. Seek immediate medical attention.
Storage
Store below 30°C (86°F). Keep the tablets in the original blister pack or container to protect from light and moisture. Keep out of the sight and reach of children. Do not use after the expiration date printed on the packaging.
